About Somali Construction Review

Articles and insights from the Somali construction industry.

What we cover

Somali Construction Review is an English-language publication about the construction industry in Somaliland, Puntland and the wider Somali region. It is written for the people who commission, design, build and supply buildings there: homeowners, diaspora clients, contractors, suppliers, engineers and architects.

The publication is set up for news, project reporting, materials, engineering and methods, business and costs, interviews, opinion and practical advice. Coverage so far is concentrated on ground and foundations, materials, engineering and methods, infrastructure and services, business and costs, people and skills, with local reporting for Hargeisa, Berbera, Burao, Borama, Gabiley, Zeila, Garowe, Bosaso, Qardho, Galkayo, Mogadishu, Baidoa, Kismayo, Beledweyne, Sheikh. The topics page shows what is published on each subject and place.

Every article names the place it is written for. Ground conditions, prices, materials and rules differ from town to town and from plot to plot, so nothing here should be read as applying everywhere, and no article replaces advice from an engineer who has seen your site.

Who writes it

Articles carry the Editorial Team byline. That is the publication’s editorial desk: it plans the coverage, sets the editorial rules described below and answers for what is published. We do not attribute articles to individual writers, and we do not claim qualifications the desk does not hold. Where an article has been checked by a named engineer or other specialist, the article says so; where it does not say so, it has not.

How articles are prepared

Coverage is planned from an editorial list of subjects and places. Before an article is published it is checked against the house rules: a direct answer to the question in its title, plain English, no prices or statistics without a named source, no invented references, and claims about a town stated as things to check rather than facts. No article is reviewed by an engineer. Treat every article as general guidance and confirm the details for your own site with a qualified person. The full policy, including how we handle sources and corrections, is on the editorial policy page.

Corrections

If something in an article is wrong, out of date or unclear, tell us. Every article has a Report an error link, and the contact page explains how to reach the desk. Substantive corrections are dated on the article.
