About the role
This is a nine-month international individual contractor post as Property Management Officer with the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), based in Mogadishu. The role sits within the Supply Chain Management section, in the Property Management Unit (PMU), and the post holder reports to the Chief Property Management Unit or a designated official. The officer provides operational, technical and coordination support to the unit.
What you will do
- Act as the PMU focal point for the Asset Disposal Task Force, coordinating preparation, consolidation and quality assurance of documents, data sets and analytical reports for the mission's Preliminary Asset Disposal Plan.
- Coordinate between the PMU, technical sections and other stakeholders on the review, endorsement, approval and implementation of the Asset Disposal Plan, following up on actions, milestones and bottlenecks.
- Support day-to-day property management functions and workplans aimed at clearing outstanding operational backlogs accurately and on time.
- Review, analyse and validate property management transactions, records and supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness and compliance with UN rules and procedures.
- Monitor compliance with internal controls, segregation of duties, audit recommendations, KPI targets and financial rules, and propose corrective actions on control gaps and overdue actions.
- Prepare reconciliations, exception reports, status analyses and management dashboards for oversight, decision-making, audit readiness and performance monitoring.
- Follow up on audit observations, internal reviews and compliance findings, keeping trackers so agreed actions are implemented on time.
- Track the status of disposal and property management cases, flag aged or pending items and recommend prioritisation and timely closure.
- Liaise with finance, procurement, movement control, engineering, transport, ICT, aviation and other stakeholders on asset accountability, reconciliation, transfers, redeployments and disposal.
- Draft briefing notes, meeting materials, minutes, action trackers, correspondence and progress reports, and contribute to refining standard operating procedures, workflows and templates.
What you need
- A first-level university degree with at least five years of relevant experience in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, public administration, engineering, property management or a related field.
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience in property management, asset management, inventory control, logistics, supply chain management, mission support or a related field.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP/Umoja, plus strong data analysis, reporting and process coordination skills.
- Experience administering property management processes, clearing operational backlogs, monitoring internal controls, supporting audit responses, tracking KPIs and applying financial rules in a UN or comparable international organisational setting.
- A technical certificate covering property or inventory management processes, asset disposal planning, data validation, reporting tools and ERP applications.
- Fluency in oral and written English.
Experience
The notice also lists experience in United Nations field operations, mission drawdown, transition or liquidation processes as highly desirable, and desirable experience supporting asset disposal planning or implementation, including preparing and reviewing disposal documentation, data analysis, stakeholder coordination and reporting for management review bodies.
How to apply
Submit your application through the employer's recruitment site by the closing date of 1 November 2026. The notice states that the United Nations charges no fee at any stage of recruitment, whether application, interview, processing or training, and does not concern itself with applicants' bank account information.
If something here is wrong
The notice governs, not this page. Where the two disagree, the notice is right, and the desk wants to know: tell the desk and the entry is corrected or taken down the same day. An entry is also taken down at the request of the body that issued it.
